Blackstone Territorial ParkBlackstone Territorial Park is a campground and recreation park located north of Fort Liard, Northwest Territories, Canada and south of Fort Simpson, N.W.T., Canada. The park is situated on the banks of the Liard River with views of the Nahanni Butte looming in the distance. Upstream from Blackstone Park is the junction of the Liard and Nahanni Rivers. Nearby, the Blackstone River joins up with the Liard River. The location of the park makes it an ideal launching point for paddle and rafting adventures. Canoeing paddle trips and river rafters often put-in and take-out from the park when exploring the Nahanni National Park Reserve. The Blackstone Park is a campground destination for many paddlers who are enjoying long haul multi day paddles. The campground provides tenting and RV campsites. The campsites include picnic tables, fire pits and firewood is available. Other services in the park include an interpretive visitor centre, picnic shelters, showers, tap water, sani station. boat launch and a small playground. The interpretive centre provides information on the local adventures, river conditions and First Nation history. The park, being close to 3 rivers, enjoys a rich historical importance to the First Nation people. At one time the rivers were transportation routes for hunting and fishing. Historical artifacts have been uncovered near the site. There is beach access and a small beach area near the boat launch. Hiking trails connect the campsite with the Liard River. Along the river are rough trails leading to the other nearby rivers. From the shores of the Liard River one can see the very popular Nahanni Mountain Range. Other adventures enjoyed in the park include swimming, hiking, fishing, birdwatching and sightseeing. How to Get to Blackstone Territorial ParkFrom the south travel the Liard Highway (Hwy #7) to the community of Fort Liard, Northwest Territories, Canada. Continue traveling the Liard Hwy north for 103 kilometres (64 miles) to the Blackstone Park. The park entrance is located on your left. Watch for signs. From Fort Simpson, N.W.T. travel the Liard Highway (Hwy #7) south for 166 kilometres to the entrance of the Blackstone Park. |
