Blackstone Territorial Park: A campground and recreation park located north of Fort Liard, NWT, Canada. The park is situated on the banks of the Liard River with views of the Nahanni Butte. Canoeing, rafting and camping are popular in the park. [ more information ] |
- Liard River: Popular river in region for activities like canoeing and kayaking. Liard River is also part of paddle routes involving the Fort Nelson and Petitot Rivers. The section of the river near Toad River on the Alaska Highway includes some challenging rapids including the Grand Canyon, Hell's Gate and Rapids of the Drowned. The Liard River is a local transportation waterway for boats.

- Muskeg River: A local river popular for swimming during the summer. There is also fishing and canoeing opportunities on the river.

- Petitot River: Known as the "Black River", the river was named after a Missionary who traveled the river visiting the First Nation villages. The river enjoys tall cliffs, narrow canyons, wildlife and white water rapids. River camping, rafting and canoeing are enjoyed on the river.

- Hay Lake Trail: A short, easy going hiking trail following the shores of Hay Lake. Trail can be wet along the marsh-like shore of the lake and it can get muddy. There is a rock hill on the north end of lake with mountain and lake views. Access from Hay Lake Campground.

- Waterfall Trail: A wilderness, often over grown, hiking trail which includes wading streams and a beautiful waterfall. The one way trail is 1 hour hike to the falls. Once across the river listen for the falls and follow trail to the left. Trail access is located at the 72 kilometre point on the Liard Highway, 30 minutes north of Fort Liard. Look for a winter road and on the left is the trailhead.

- Chevy Lookout Trail: 1 kilometre hiking trail, with some elevation hiking, leading to a lookout over the Petitot River and Kotaneelee Mountain Range. Benches and picnic table at viewpoint. Access to trail is from the gravel pit in Fort Liard. Follow road/trail over second hill to lookout.

- Mount Coty Trail: A full day elevation hike to a fire tower summit on the top of Mt. Coty. The wilderness hike is a 9 kilometre one way trail. Depending on fitness levels of the group the hike should take no longer than 3.5 hours one way. Views from summit include the Liard Valley and surrounding mountains. Transportation across the Liard River is required to access the trailhead.
