Wood Buffalo National Park of Canada: Established in 1922 the park is Canada's largest National Park . It is 44,800 square kilometres and was first established to protect the wild herds of wood buffalo. Activities include canoeing, hiking, backpacking, flightseeing and wilderness camping. - Little Buffalo River Falls Day Use Area: A picnic site, sightseeing destination, rest stop and hikng day use area with a waterfall, a kitchen shelter, picnic tables, interpretive signs and pit toilets. Located on Hwy #5 north of Fort Smith.

- Salt Plains Lookout: A viewpoint overlooking the Wood Buffalo Park salt plains. There is a viewing platform, interpretive signs, a telescope, picnic tables and pit toilets. Lookout located at the end of an 8 kilometre gravel road. Entrance to road is 37 kilometres from Fort Smith on Hwy #5.

- Queen Elizabeth Territorial Park: A day use park and campground park best known for its views of the Slave River Rapids and the white pelicans of summer. Activities enjoyed include fishing, kayaking, rafting, camping, birdwatching and hiking. Located in Fort Smith at the entrance to town.

- Slave Rapids Riverside Trail: A 4 kilometre (2.5 mile) boardwalk and dirt path along the banks of the Slave River leading down to the rapids and possible white pelican bird sightings. Located in Fort Smith.
